Prepare and settle the VAT return

Calculate output and input VAT for a period and post the settlement.

The VAT Return screen reads your posted ledger movements on VAT Output (2102) and VAT Input (1105) for the period you choose. It shows taxable sales, output VAT, taxable purchases, input VAT and the net amount payable, or the credit carried forward when input VAT is higher.

Steps

  1. Tax → VAT Return. Choose the period (from / to) and apply.
  2. Review output VAT on sales, input VAT on purchases and the net VAT payable.
  3. Click "File & settle return". A VAT settlement entry is posted and the return appears under Filed Returns.
  4. Submit the return yourself on the Tax Authority portal, then use "Mark paid" when you pay it.
Note: Cutme calculates the return; it does not file it with the Tax Authority for you.

Good to know

  • The settlement entry clears both VAT accounts into 2103 Taxes Payable: debit 2102, credit 1105, and credit 2103 with the net payable (or debit it when there is a credit).
  • The same period cannot be filed twice. Post all invoices for the period before you file.
  • "Mark paid" only records the status. Record the actual bank payment to the Tax Authority yourself, for example as a treasury withdrawal against 2103.

Common questions

Example: output VAT 1,400 and input VAT 280. What is the settlement?

The net payable is 1,120. Filing posts debit 2102 VAT Output 1,400, credit 1105 VAT Input 280 and credit 2103 Taxes Payable 1,120.

Does Cutme file the return on the ETA portal?

No. Cutme calculates the figures and posts the settlement entry. You submit the return on the Tax Authority portal yourself, using the figures from this screen, which you can print.
